    THE PARISH OF MONTVALEZAN
Montvalezan located 11 kms far from La Rosière and is the home to a wonderful church and it's historical tower.

    * Certified as a historical monument, the tower was built in 1674. It was, at the time, an annex of the Hospice du Petit St Bernard.

    * Finished in 1688 the church in Montvalezan was built during the "art baroque" period in the Haute Tarentaise. It is open to the public every Thursday from 4pm to 6pm in July and August.

    * The parish has 14 chapels including the magnificent chapel "Saint Michel" perched above the village of Chatelard.

THE STRONGHOLDS OF THE SAVOIE : THE FORT OF THE " REDOUTE RUINEE"
The fort of the Redoute, which is at 2400 meters above sea level, was a strategic site during the Second World Ward. Built in 1892 it offers magnificent views over the Tarentaise valley, the Petit St. Bernard pass and the Mont Blanc. Accessible on foot or mountain bike.

TRADITIONAL ARCHITECTURE: THE VILLAGES OF MONTVALEZAN
Wood, stone and slates are the main ingredients of traditional Savoyard architecture. The commune has its own slate quarry which is only accessible by foot during the Summer months. Many locals still have all the stone building skills passed on from generation to generation. The buildings in the 22 hamlets and villages of Montvalezan are a living proof.

THE HIGH PASSES OF THE TARENTAISE : THE PETIT-SAINT-BERNARD PASS
Only 8 kms far from La Rosière on the RN90 this pass was on the main Roman route from Milan to Vienne and has been a passage between France and Italy for thousands of years. The pass is 2188 meters above sea level and has many things to visit including the Hospice, Roman remains and the Chanousia garden, including of course superb views of the Mont Blanc.
